New diesel for Jeep Patriot

Jeep has announced a new diesel engine for its Patriot SUV.

The 2.2 CRD Mercedes-sourced engine replaces the current VW 2.0-litre unit offering an increase in power of 23bhp and and a 7lb ft hike in torque.

Performance figures for the Patriot include a top speed of 125mph and 0-60mph time of 10.7secs. The company claims a combined fuel economy of 42.8mpg.

Available in four trim levels – Sport, Sport+, Limited and Overland – all now feature hill start assist and active head restraints, with the Sport+ version adding cruise control, tinted windows and Bluetooth over the base Sport model. The top of the range Overland includes leather seats, 18-inch alloys and park assist.

Jeep recently unveiled details of its 2011 Patriot, including exterior updates such as revised front and rear fascia. Prices for the Patriot start from £14,995 for the 2.4-litre Sport petrol, rising to £21,995 for the 2.2 CRD Overland.
