Subaru’s Impreza saloon concept is set to influence the styling of the Japanese maker’s whole range

Its main features include a strong, Volvo S60-like shoulder line

The concept is intended to herald more cohesive design at Subaru

Osamu Namba, said the project’s goal had been to “provide the future design direction for the brand”

The interior of the concept is of a much higher quality than the current car

Namba added that the concept’s new cues had “nothing to do with the WRX/STi design language”

Toyota confirms electric iQ

Toyota will begin European trials of an all-electric version of its iQ city car in 2011.

The firm will put the iQ EV, previewed by last year’s FT-EV II concept, on sale in the USA from 2012, but the firm is also looking at selling it in other markets including Europe.

The iQ EV announcement comes as part of a Toyota progress report on its development of alternatively fuelled low carbon vehicles.

Working with Tesla, Toyota showed an all-electric RAV4 that uses the US electric car specialist’s running gear; the car will go on sale in the US in 2012.

Toyota will launch 11 hybrids by the end of 2012 including both “all-new and re-designed models”. Already confirmed for launch is a hybrid version of the Yaris and a Prius-based MPV. The Prius plug-in will be launched in early 2012.

The firm has also said next-generation batteries beyond the pack that will be used in the Prius plug-in are in development that will “bring big advances in performance that will be needed for electric cars to succeed in the mass market”. These include solid-slate and metal-air batteries.

In its statement, Toyota added that it believes “eco cars can only have a positive impact on the environment of they are widely used”.

Despite its development of alternatively fuelled vehicles, Toyota has said it remains committed to “improving the efficiency of its internal combustion engines, which account for the majority of sales, while raising performance, reducing costs and expanding the range available”.

Hailed as “Incepto,” the two-seater presents an aerodynamic body, especially the glass-covered rear wheels, to ensure minimal wind resistance and better controls at high speeds. Developed for the year 2020, the sportscar includes a dramatic center-vertical exhaust to tout an astonishing design language.

Though Incepto has a radical design which is different from many other designs and concept cars there is a portion of impracticality which can be refined for its better secured future.

Peugeot Sport Cars Epine Concept

Peugeot Sport Cars Epine Concept Cars derived from a project to create a hybrid eco-friendly vehicle. The Peugeot Epine Concept design study was developed to have a sportscar-like performance while creating a new way to get in touch with nature. Inspired by Formula One cars and motorcycles, Epine features a whale skeleton, as a tribute to Mother Nature.

The concept car was created by Daniel Schumpert. Peugeot Epine was basically a project that was supposed to turn into an environmentally friendly hybrid vehicle, but eventually it turned into a “consumer’s racing car”.

With the likes of Porsche, Aston Martin and Ferrari in its crosshairs, it’s not surprising that the new Lotus Elite sports car is significantly heavier and more powerful than the company’s current offerings. In fact, with an expected kerb weight of 3,637 pounds, the Elite is very different to Lotus’ usual assortment of light weight track cars but its designers are confident it will still have the ultimate sports car feel--just with a little more comfort and space. The design, specification and performance figures for all Production Intent Prototypes will be confirmed following official testing and will be available from Lotus Cars.
